Design

The physical design of the 34E6UC is a 1000R curvature, which is uncommon at this size, as most 34-inch gaming monitors opt for 1500R or 1800R curvatures. The 34E6UC offers a much tighter curvature, and when viewed from the side, you can really see how intense it is (see the image above).

The idea behind such an aggressive curve is to increase immersion, particularly in games that benefit from fully submerging the gamer's peripherals in the in-game world. Examples include racing games, simulator games, and other experiences along these lines.

At this curvature, the monitor is quite close to the natural curvature of the human eye, which places the display's edges more directly within your field of vision. This seating means the image is much more cohesive, requiring less head movement, peripherals are filled, and the image appears flatter despite being displayed on a heavily curved display.

From a build perspective, the 34E6UC is designed to hit a specific price target, meaning KOORUI's attention hasn't been on making the most feature-rich or sturdy gaming monitor. Instead, KOORUI has opted to spend most of the material cost on performance, which means we have a very cheap-feeling chassis that is predominantly plastic. It has a very stock-standard matte finish that is actually quite fingerprint-resistant.

The monitor's back panel is extremely simple in terms of aesthetics. There is simple KOORUI branding at the top center of the backplate, with a subtle etching design that flows into the red accent color. There isn't any "gamer" RGB lighting, jagged edging, or typical "gamer" styling. KOORUI has decided to use a mostly clean rear panel, making it applicable to most gaming setups.

The stand feels slightly better quality than the monitor itself and offers ergonomic features such as tilt, height, and swivel. Considering the 34E6UC utilizes a VA panel, these ergonomics are important, as users will likely need to adjust the monitor to the optimal position to get the most out of the experience. If the stand isn't required, or you just want to free up some desk space by picking up a monitor arm, the 34E6UC comes with 75x75mm VESA mounting. I would have liked to see 100x100mm VESA support, but 75x75mm is still widely used.

Keeping to the simple design language, KOORUI has equipped the 34E6UC with basic connectivity: 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, and 1x headphone jack. That is it. There aren't any USB ports.

Panel Breakdown

At the center of the 34E6UC is the 34-inch VA panel with a 3440 x 1440p resolution, making this a 21:9 aspect-ratio display. With that increase in horizontal screen real estate, the 34E6UC, along with every other ultrawide monitor, offers increased workflow potential, making ultrawide monitors double as great workspace displays and gaming monitors.

On an ultrawide, spreadsheets are much easier to manage, browsers can be split into three windows comfortably, and word processing can feel more efficient. Since the 34E6UC runs a VA panel, which prioritizes contrast over speed, gamers will get a much more color-focused experience than just raw speed. For example, the 34E6UC's panel has a rated contrast ratio of 3000:1, which means the blacks it delivers are quite strong, especially for its price.

Additionally, the VA panel in the 34E6UC appeared much darker and showed stronger shadow detail than the IPS display next to it. This isn't particularly surprising, as IPS displays can tend to appear washed out in darker scenes.

KOORUI 34E6UC Gaming Monitor Review - UltraWide Gaming at 180Hz on a Budget 55

Why is this good for the 34E6UC? The use of the VA panel means the monitor is designed more toward a cinematic look, ideal for media consumption and games that benefit from increased graphical fidelity. The 34E6UC supports 100% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3, resulting in punchy, vibrant colors that are well-suited for gaming and general media consumption.

Brightness is 400 nits, and the 34E6UC supports HDR400. However, I wouldn't expect HDR performance to be good on this monitor, as it lacks local dimming, which significantly hinders it. Although I wouldn't expect the 34E6UC to have stellar performance at its given price point.

The panel is rated for a 180Hz refresh rate, with a 1ms (MPRT) response time, which translates to anywhere between 8 - 15ms (GTG). Here is where we make the trade-off for those rich colors. The VA panel offers a higher contrast ratio, but it struggles with slower dark-level transitions, which can often lead to ghosting or smearing during intense motion. The 34E6UC is no exception here, and it's clear from my testing that motion clarity isn't a huge priority with the 34E6UC.

Performance

So, how does the KOORUI 34E6UC fare in what matters most - games? Firstly, with every monitor I test, I like to include several different genres of games to see where the monitor performs best and to hopefully give a gamer an idea of what their experience will be like if they play their favorite type of game on the display under the spotlight.

For the AOC U27G4, I tested the following games: League of Legends, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, God of War Ragnarok, Valorant, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Age of Mythology: Retold, Borderlands 4, Counter-Strike, Battlefield 6, and Forza Horizon 5.

The 34E6UC performed adequately across all of the previously mentioned titles, but some stood out more than others. Firstly, the 34E6UC provided an awesome experience in Forza Horizon 5, with the display feeling perfect for racing games and taking full advantage of the 21:9 aspect ratio. That goes for all titles on ultrawide monitors, as some don't natively support the 21:9 aspect ratio and instead render the game in 16:9 and stretch it to 21:9.

KOORUI 34E6UC Gaming Monitor Review - UltraWide Gaming at 180Hz on a Budget 52

Forza Horizon 5 doesn't do this, and neither do League of Legends, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and Age of Mythology: Retold. All of those titles were standouts for different reasons. For example, The Witcher 3 really showcased the fantastic contrast ratio the 34E6UC can deliver, and with very little fast movement, there wasn't much poor motion performance to deal with.

League of Legends was also a standout, as it's a competitive title that reached the 180Hz maximum refresh rate while maintaining relatively good motion performance, since there aren't many quick camera movements in the game. Age of Mythology: Retold demonstrated the beauty of ultrawide gaming monitors through the glory of Real-Time Strategy (RTS) spread across a large amount of screen real estate.

KOORUI 34E6UC Gaming Monitor Review - UltraWide Gaming at 180Hz on a Budget 53

Titles that didn't perform well were essentially all the first-person shooter (FPS) games, as all of them require extremely fast camera movements that resulted in poor motion performance in the form of smearing and ghosting.

Final Thoughts

So, should you buy the KOORUI 34E6UC? If you are looking to step into the world of ultrawide gaming but don't want to break the bank and aren't sure it's for you, the 34E6UC is a pretty decent option. Although with some stipulations.

KOORUI 34E6UC Gaming Monitor Review - UltraWide Gaming at 180Hz on a Budget 50

The ideal owner of the 34E6UC is someone who spends most of their gaming time in racing/driving simulators, open-world games, or strategy titles. Not someone who regularly jumps into Overwatch 2 or Counter-Strike. Additionally, this owner would want an ultrawide for workplace use, as the extra screen real estate can dramatically improve work efficiency, significantly increasing the overall value offering of the 34E6UC.

In a nutshell, the 34E6UC is a pretty decent entry-level ultrawide gaming monitor that is best utilized for specific types of games, and I believe would be a great monitor for someone to try out the ultrawide format without cashing out on an expensive OLED. While there are certainly some problems with the KOORUI 34E6UC, the monitor is less than $300 and offers a 3440 x 1440 resolution, with a 180Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms (MPRT) response time, which is fairly decent performance for the price.

Similar specifications on competing ultrawide monitors from brands such as MSI, Xiaomi, and Samsung typically fall within the $300-$500 range. So, KOORUI is attempting to undercut the competition, which is great for potential buyers if they are willing to accept the VA panel-derived shortcomings.
