Alarm bells are definitely going off at Google HQ today after images of the Google Pixel 5 surfaced online from one of the most unlikely sources, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford.
The Gearbox CEO, best known for the popular Borderlands video game franchise, took to his personal X account on June 1 to share two images of an unreleased, and even unannounced Pixel Watch 5.
Pitchford writes that his friend was scuba diving near the island of St. Martin, in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean Sea. The images show "Pixel Watch 5" on the underside of the watch, along with sensors and the crown dial on the outer edge.

"He noted that the reverse of the watch indicates that it is a Google Pixel 5, which has not yet been announced, let alone released. It seems to be fine. The face indicates an empty battery, but seems to have enough reserve power to display the correct time," wrote Pitchford
Pitchford added that the watch didn't have enough battery to display the screen, but did have enough reserve power to display the correct time, which suggests a Google employee testing this device lost it somewhat recently.
The discovery of the Pixel Watch 5 and the leak from Randy Pitchford, who is actually attempting to get in contact with the person who lost it to return it, has now been placed in the same category as the infamous iPhone 4 leak that happened when an Apple employee left an unreleased, prototype iPhone 4 at bar in Redwood City, California, only for it be discovered and bought by Gizmodo for reportedly $5,000. Gizmodo went on to publish the full details of the device via a teardown and hands-on.
